AI that gives back to the planet

About Our Platform

How does EcoGPT help the planet?

EcoGPT is designed to be a more responsible way to use AI. We prioritize efficient models and system design to reduce resource use, and we reinvest a portion of our revenue into environmental initiatives like tree planting and restoration projects.

What does "trees planted" actually mean?

We translate EcoGPT usage into real-world environmental impact equivalents.

For every 100 messages sent across EcoGPT, we contribute the equivalent of:

🌳1 tree planted
🌍~300g of CO₂ offset
💧~2 liters of water restored
💡~10 hours of LED light enabled

These numbers represent estimated impact equivalents, not a literal one-to-one action per question.

How is this calculated?

EcoGPT uses a pooled impact model. That means we aggregate usage across the platform and convert it into environmental contributions based on:

  • The efficiency of our AI systems
  • Operational emissions and energy use
  • Funds allocated to verified environmental initiatives

This allows us to report impact in a way that's simple, understandable, and grounded in real outcomes.

Because impact is measured collectively, the more people who use EcoGPT, the greater the shared environmental contribution. Inviting friends to use EcoGPT helps increase the positive impact we can support together.

Are these numbers exact?

Not exactly — and we want to be clear about that.

Individual messages don't trigger individual actions. Instead, EcoGPT tracks total usage across the platform and converts that collective activity into real-world environmental impact using estimated equivalents.

The impact numbers you see are good-faith approximations, based on EcoGPT's efficiency, operational footprint, and the portion of revenue allocated to environmental initiatives. They're designed to make impact more understandable, not to exaggerate or oversimplify it.

As EcoGPT grows and our partnerships evolve, we'll continue refining how we calculate and report impact, with transparency as a guiding principle.

Why show impact in different units like trees, CO₂, and water?

Environmental impact can be abstract. We use multiple units to make it more tangible:

  • Trees help visualize long-term restoration
  • CO₂ reflects climate impact
  • Water highlights resource conservation
  • Light hours represent access to efficient energy

They're different ways of expressing the same underlying idea: small choices add up.

Is EcoGPT just carbon offsets or greenwashing?

No. While offsets and environmental contributions are part of our approach, EcoGPT's first priority is reducing impact through efficiency and thoughtful system design.

EcoGPT is designed with efficiency in mind. We prioritize models and system configurations that aim to reduce resource use per interaction where possible, rather than defaulting to the largest available models for every task.

We're continuing to evaluate and improve this as the technology evolves.

We understand offsets are not a substitute for responsibility; they're a complement. As our partnerships formalize, we'll share more details about where contributions go and how impact is verified.

Where can I learn more about EcoGPT's partners and initiatives?

We're actively working with and exploring partnerships with environmental organizations focused on reforestation, conservation, and climate action. As these partnerships formalize, we'll share more details directly in the app and across our active social pages.

About Us

How is EcoGPT different from other AI chat apps?

EcoGPT isn't trying to be the biggest or most powerful AI platform. We're focused on being a more responsible alternative—one that prioritizes efficiency, transparency, and environmental accountability by design.

Instead of racing toward ever-larger models at any cost, we aim to deliver high-quality AI conversations while using resources more thoughtfully and giving back along the way.

Is EcoGPT competing with "Big AI"?

Not directly — but we are responding to the reality it's created.

Large AI platforms have played a major role in advancing LLM technology. At the same time, the dominant approach has prioritized scale, speed, and market capture, often with little transparency around energy use, environmental cost, or long-term sustainability.

EcoGPT exists for people who want a different option: an AI assistant that remains genuinely useful, but thoughtfully built, operated, and paid for. We believe progress shouldn't require ever-increasing compute at any cost, or ask users to ignore the tradeoffs behind the tools they rely on every day.

So, no, we're not trying to replace the largest incumbent AI chat products, but there should be room for multiple approaches to AI.

Who is behind EcoGPT?

EcoGPT is built by a small, independent team based in NYC. We're designers, builders, and researchers who are humans first. We care deeply about how technology shows up in everyday life. What it costs, both visibly and invisibly.

We believe in technological progress. We just don't believe it has to come at the expense of sustainable living or long-term responsibility. EcoGPT exists because we think it's possible to build powerful tools and be thoughtful about their impact.

We're early in this journey, and we're honest about that. This is our first time building something like this at this scale, which means we bring fresh eyes, curiosity, and a willingness to question assumptions in a rapidly evolving space. We're not afraid to experiment, learn in public, and rethink how things are typically done.

Can I share feedback or ideas?

Absolutely! EcoGPT is a living product and we genuinely want to hear from you.

If something feels unclear, misleading, broken, or promising, your feedback helps shape what EcoGPT becomes next. As a small team, we actually read and consider what users send—especially early supporters who care about building something better.
